CONSULTING WITH MONTREALERS, for true democracy
Over the course of 2019, more than 7,000 Montrealers participated in a series of public consultations on systemic racism and discrimination. Participation ranged from the presenting of oral memoirs and research, to organizing local micro-consultations and to asking questions to Commissioners. People of all backgrounds provided input on solutions to remedy systemic discrimination in all of its forms, creating a rich source of testimonies, data, research, and practices.
The City of Montreal's Public Consultation Office, the independent body that led the consultations, spent several months preparing their report as well as a list of recommendations aimed at addressing crucial issues that affect the well-being and development of racialized communities in Montreal, including, but not limited to: racial and social profiling, discrimination in employment, in the arts and culture, housing, and entrepreneurship.
The report and recommendations from the OCPM were made public on June 15th, 2020.
